The Catechismus Romanus, or Roman Catechism, is a comprehensive guide to Catholic doctrine commissioned by the Council of Trent (1545-1563) in response to the Protestant Reformation. Published in 1566, it was primarily written for parish priests to ensure clear and authoritative teaching of the Catholic faith. The Catechism is divided into four main parts: the Apostles’ Creed, the Sacraments, the Ten Commandments, and the Lord’s Prayer and the Hail Mary. It played a crucial role in standardizing Catholic teaching and remains an important historical document of the Counter-Reformation era.
