Description:
The story’s central idea revolves around a character named Vampiria, who roams in search of her victims. The narrative takes a twist when she encounters a Vampire who drinks her blood. He too then becomes a mere plaything in the hands of another entity, blurring the lines of victimhood, leaving the audience to question who is truly victimizing whom, or if victimization exists at all in this surreal world.
As the story unfolds, it delves deep into the realm of fantasy and illusion that thrives in the night. Yet, all of these ephemeral imaginings are dispelled by the first light of dawn and the awakening sounds of the city. In essence, “Vampiria” serves as an emotional exploration of concealed human insecurities, offering an intriguing attempt to shed light on these insecurities without the need for a rational explanation.
About the Artist:
Born in Pitomača in 1925, Dragutin Vunak pursued a career in arts and cinema. He studied architecture and philosophy in Zagreb, Croatia. Vunak’s passion for the cinematic arts led him to the “Movie Studio” of Jadran film, where he honed his skills.
He further enriched his creative journey by working at the “Zagreb” radio station and contributing to several literary publications. His literary pursuits culminated in the publication of two co-produced and one independent collection of poems. Vunak’s artistic creations were not confined to the written word, as he showcased his works at various art exhibitions in Rovinj, Croatia, and independently in Algeria.
In the field of cinema, Vunak’s versatility knew no bounds. He assumed multiple roles, serving as a props-man, assistant director, cameraman, screenwriter, and ultimately as a film director. His extensive involvement in the film industry included stints as a studio director for the “Interpublic” cartoon, a playwright for “Zagreb Film,” and an art consultant at “Filmoteka 16” in Zagreb, Croatia.
Vunak’s creative output was staggering, with approximately 70 scripts penned, around 60 movies directed, 10 cartoons released, 9 films centered on traffic, 10 documentary movies, and 34 animated movies in sequels. His artistic prowess did not go unnoticed, as he received around 20 international awards in recognition of his contributions to the world of cinema.
Notably, “Filmoteka 16” received the prestigious “Nagrada grada Zagreba” (“The City of Zagreb Award”) for Vunak’s collection of movies in sequels titled “Matematika” (“Mathematics”), along with Ivančić’s collection “Perspektiva” (“The Perspective”).
