Vincenz von Kern, born on January 20, 1760, in Graz and passing away on April 16, 1829, in Vienna, was a prominent Austrian doctor and surgeon whose contributions to the field have left a lasting impact. Kern’s journey in the medical profession began as a surgical assistant in Salzburg, Trieste, and Venice. In 1783, he made a pivotal move to the hospital in Sankt Marx, where he not only practiced medicine but also engaged in absorbing surgical lectures concurrently. Demonstrating exceptional proficiency, Kern attained mastery in surgery and obstetrics in 1784 and received his doctorate in 1790, specializing in chirurgical procedures. His commitment to medical education led him to assume a professorship for surgery and obstetrics at the k. k. Lyceum in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1797.
