The second volume of the richly illustrated book by Otto Henne am Rhyn, a Swiss journalist and historian who made significant contributions to the development of the German Kulturgeschichte (History of Civilization) school.
One of his most notable works is the “Allgemeine Kulturgeschichte” (Universal History of Civilization), which consists of eight volumes and covers the history of human civilization from ancient times to the late 19th century. This comprehensive cultural history was a departure from the traditional focus on political and military aspects in German historiography, emphasizing instead the broader cultural, social, and intellectual developments.
Another important book by Henne am Rhyn is the “Kulturgeschichte des deutschen Volkes” (Cultural History of the German People), which consists of two volumes and provides a cultural overview of the German people.
