The map of “Principaux Archipels d’Oceanie” was one of the many maps included in the Atlas Universel, and it was created by the French engraver R. Lobrot. Lobrot was known for his intricate and detailed engravings, and his work was highly regarded in the 19th century.
There are numerous versions of maps printed in atlases and as separate parts, so we can’t definitely determine the date of publication. Nevertheless, this beautiful map provides a fascinating glimpse into the geography and exploration of Oceania during the 19th century.
