Description

Scheuchzer Physica Sacra Tab 540

***

Johann Jakob Scheuchzer (2 August 1672 – 23 June 1733) was a Swiss physician and natural scientist from Zürich. He is best known for his significant work, Physica Sacra, spanning four volumes, which combined biblical commentary with his perspective on the natural world, showcasing a harmonious blend of scientific inquiry and religious interpretation.

This is one of many illustrations from this work, which quickly became famous as the Kupfer-Bibel or “Copper Bible.”

Description: The plate depicts Psalm 19:2-7. These verses describe how the heavens and the natural world constantly reveal God’s glory and craftsmanship, communicate knowledge without words, and how God’s law is perfect, trustworthy, and brings wisdom, joy, and enlightenment to those who follow it.
