Srbobran was a national Serbian journal printed by the Serbian community in Zagreb. The paper began publishing in Zagreb in October 1884. It was started by Baron Jovan Živković, and the first editor was Pavle Jovanović. It was printed in Cyrillic and was originally published two to three times a week, and every day since January 1900.
It temporarily stopped publishing in September 1902, after the riots that broke out in Zagreb due to Nikola Stojanović’s article “Serbs and Croats.” From December 1902 it was published under the name Novi Srbobran, and from 1907 to 1914 again as Srbobran. The paper was banned after the outbreak of the First World War.
