Letters and words Philaret Drozdov
(Letters and words; Life of Sergius of Radonezh…) – In the Russian language
***
The book consists of two parts, the first part is about the Moscow Congregation while the second part is about the life of the founder of Троице-Сергиева Лавра – Sergius of Radonezh, spiritual leader and reformer of Russian Orthodox Church. Even though he lived in the mid-14th century (1314 – 1394), the revered monk Сергий was canonized in 1452.
The author, Филарет Дроздов, Metropolitan of Moscow, was a very influential figure in the Russian Orthodox Church in the period from 1821 to 1867. From a bibliophile and historical point of view, the most important feat of Philaret was the translation of the Bible into modern Russian. Extremely rare edition, with no copy given for auction in any major auction houses in Russian Federation.
