The modern fortification (or Italian fortification ) is a type of fortification developed from the fifteenth century in Italy , to remedy the problem posed by the development of artillery , highlighted by the wars of Italy and those against the Ottomans. Originally developed in Italy, it spread throughout Mediterranean and Northern Europe in times to come. This particular edition was printed in Venice and it’s very scarce (only six copies in world libraries). Please note: plates I, VIII, and XV-XXIII are all missing.
