Rečnik Tehnologije – Technology Dictionary
***
The Technology Dictionary is a philosophical work published in June 1981 as part of the Vidici magazine. It is the first postmodern text in Yugoslavian and Serbian culture. The book is written in the form of a dictionary, with entries chosen arbitrarily so that the reader cannot immediately connect most of them with technology. The book deals with the production of forms of thinking, rather than technical achievements. In postmodernism, the notion of the world’s integrity was fundamentally shaken. In the early 1980s, ideologies were crumbling and falling apart. The Technology Dictionary accurately predicted the collapse of Yugoslavia and the system that the Technologists (see entry) could not sustain for much longer.
The method of processing the entries reveals the authenticity and strength of the author’s thinking. The book is presented as the work of an anonymous author, but it is believed to have been written by Aleksandar Petrović, who was the editor of Vidici at the time. The book is visually appealing, resembling a medieval manuscript, with a cover page written in Cyrillic script and the interior written in calligraphic Latin script.
