Nearly 200 delegates and observers from 28 countries attended the fourth General Assembly of the World Veterans Federation. Her Majesty Queen Juliana opened the event on November 16 at the Ridderzaal in The Hague. Expert rehabilitation consultants from the WVF member nations presented to the Assembly a far-reaching plan for the rehabilitation of war disabled which affects more than 5,000,000 handicapped veterans and will be put in operation with the cooperation of the United Nations agencies.
The World Veterans Federation, one of the four largest non-governmental organizations in the world, includes 115 veteran associations from 22 countries, with a combined membership of 17,800,000. Nations represented before the Assembly include Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Gold Coast, Great Britain, Greece, India, Israel, Italy, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, the Philippines, Turkey, the United States, and Yugoslavia.
The WVF has Class B consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council and is a member of the International Committee of Non – Governmental Organizations for the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund.
