Marking the conclusion of the United Nations Decade of Disabled Persons (1983-1992), the General Assembly held four special meetings. The meetings, which took place on 12 and 13 October, featured statements from 46 delegations, including 18 Government Ministers and three Parliamentarians. Adjourning its formal meeting, the Assembly also heard statements from representatives of seven non-governmental organizations that have been particularly active in promoting the implementation of the World Programme of Action concerning Disabled Persons.
