Johann Jakob Scheuchzer (2 August 1672 – 23 June 1733) was a Swiss physician and natural scientist from Zürich. He is best known for his significant work, Physica Sacra, spanning four volumes, which combined biblical commentary with his perspective on the natural world, showcasing a harmonious blend of scientific inquiry and religious interpretation.
This is one of many illustrations from this work, which quickly became famous as the Kupfer-Bibel or “Copper Bible.”
Genesis 1:24-25 – “And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.”
