***
Johann Jakob Scheuchzer (2 August 1672 – 23 June 1733) was a Swiss physician and natural scientist from Zürich. He is best known for his significant work, Physica Sacra, spanning four volumes, which combined biblical commentary with his perspective on the natural world, showcasing a harmonious blend of scientific inquiry and religious interpretation.
This is one of many illustrations from this work, which quickly became famous as the Kupfer-Bibel or “Copper Bible.”
Description: In Genesis 2:21-22, God creates the first woman, Eve, from the rib of the first man, Adam. God causes Adam to fall into a deep sleep, removes one of his ribs, and then forms Eve from it. This act signifies the intimate and intrinsic connection between man and woman, highlighting the creation of woman as a companion and helper for man, and establishing the foundational relationship of marriage.
