Vienac, a literary weekly, was published in Zagreb from 1869 to 1903. It was published by Matica ilirska (from 1874, Matice hrvatske), Dionička tiskara (1873–1900), and Matice until the end of its publication. It served as the central magazine of Croatian literary and cultural life at that time and was edited by various individuals throughout its existence.
Vienac published diverse literary works, including poems, stories, novellas, serialized novels, plays, essays, travelogues, humorous pieces, memoirs, and more. It played a crucial role in the literary scene of that time, as many prominent representatives of Croatian realism, naturalism, and the forerunners of modernism published their works in it. Translated literature and studies about foreign writers were also featured in the magazine.
In the section called “Listak” (initially “Sitnice i pošurice”), they printed feuilletons, literary and theater reviews, articles, opinions, and news about current literary and cultural events.
