Annotated typed manuscript, with some (two or three unidentified hands) handwritten corrections and remarks, one page entirely handwritten. Contains 305 leaves. Size: 19, 5 x 25,1 cm. Date: not dated but before 1938. Condition: Unbound, some tears, creases, stains, dog ears, and defects affecting a few characters. Generally in very good condition.

This is unique, an early draft of Maria Germanova’s work, typed between 1931and 1938. Other versions of this manuscript are preserved in the legacy of the actress at the Museum of Moscow Art Theatre Copy in Moscow has one (the last) short chapter more (3 pages), which was written afterward. Full memories of ‘first generation’ actress of the Moscow Art Theatre, Maria Nikolaevna Germanova, her diaries – is the poignant documentary narration that surrounded her at different stages of life, childhood, and education in school, entering and working in the Moscow Art Theatre, emigration. The book reveals many previously unknown pages of life, said the year of her birth, explains the origin of her name. Maria Nikolaevna was a precious witness of time, first in Imperial Russia and later in the Russian émigré circles in Europe.
